Helpful terms

Track: the canoe’s ability to keep a straight line. Shape of the hull can either influence canoes turn or go straight.

Secondary stability: stability when the canoe is tilted to one side or the other. Canoes with little secondary stability are initially extremely stable, but once tipped too far there’s nowhere to go but into the water. Canoes with good secondary stability will initially feel very unstable and tippy, but they’re easy to recover if tipped too far.

  • The most versatile kayak. It is good for an afternoon float, short lake tripping, or rivers.

  • It has more maneuverability and a slightly enclosed cockpit and cargo space in the front and back.

  • Not suitable for long tripping with lots of gear.

Stand-Up Paddleboard

Length – 10’ or 11’ Weight – 47 lbs

  • 11ft is better suited for doing yoga or bringing small children along.

  • 10ft is still very stable and easier to carry.

  • Not inflatable: solid fiberglass paddleboard and must go on the roof of a vehicle.

Wenonah Aurora (lake/river)

  • Fantastic for both an afternoon on the lake, or filling it with gear for an overnight.

  • Perfect combination of a tripping canoe and a whitewater canoe.

  • Excels in overnight river tripping.

  • Most maneuverable rental canoe.

  • Not ideal for overnight lake tripping. Paddlers will have to work harder for speed and to keep the canoe straight.

Necky Manitou II - Tandem (no rudder)

  • Best suited for lake paddling.

  • Perfect for fishing on a lake.

  • Easy to take out either solo or with two people.

  • Very stable.

  • Not suitable for overnight tripping or river paddling.

FAQ

  • We only require a 50% non-refundable deposit to reserve your rental. The remaining balance is due at pickup.

  • Yes. A credit card is required to be kept on file for all rentals, including bookings made over the phone. We also accept other payment methods for in-person payments.

  • You can pick up and return your rental anytime during our business hours on your scheduled rental dates.

  • A cleaning fee may apply if rental equipment is returned excessively dirty. Customers are responsible for any loss, damage, or misuse of rental equipment during the rental period.

  • Yes. Totem employees can assist with loading rental equipment upon request. However, customers are responsible for ensuring the equipment is properly and securely loaded, and Totem is not liable for any damage or injury that may occur during loading.

  • Optional spray skirts are available for select kayaks upon request. Dry bags, barrels, and portage carts are also available to rent for an additional fee.

  • Yes. A minimum of 4 boats must be rented to reserve a trailer.

  • All required safety equipment is provided with your rental.

  • Reservation deposits are non-refundable in the event of cancellation.
