Helpful terms
Track: the canoe’s ability to keep a straight line. Shape of the hull can either influence canoes turn or go straight.
Secondary stability: stability when the canoe is tilted to one side or the other. Canoes with little secondary stability are initially extremely stable, but once tipped too far there’s nowhere to go but into the water. Canoes with good secondary stability will initially feel very unstable and tippy, butthey’re easy to recover if tipped too far.
