Helpful terms

Track: the canoe’s ability to keep a straight line. Shape of the hull can either influence canoes turn or go straight.

Secondary stability: stability when the canoe is tilted to one side or the other. Canoes with little secondary stability are initially extremely stable, but once tipped too far there’s nowhere to go but into the water. Canoes with good secondary stability will initially feel very unstable and tippy, butthey’re easy to recover if tipped too far.

  • Not very maneuverable and has little secondary stability.

  • The most versatile kayak. It is good for an afternoon float, short lake tripping, or rivers.

  • It has more maneuverability and a slightly enclosed cockpit and cargo space in the front and back.

  • Not suitable for long tripping with lots of gear.

  • This canoe damages easily. Be careful around rocks.

  • Designed to be the perfect combination of a tripping canoe and a whitewater canoe.

  • Pack it down with gear for a couple overnights on the river.

  • Most maneuverable rental canoe.

  • Not ideal for overnight lake tripping. Paddlers will have to work harder for speed and to keep the canoe straight.

*Please be aware that this is simply an inquiry and not a reservation. We will reach out to the individual during business hours to finalize payment details and confirm the booking.

FAQ

  • No, but a 50% non refundable deposit is required, based on the total rental cost except when otherwise indicated.

  • Yes. We require a credit card on file and for remote bookings by phone. Other means of payments are accepted in person.

  • Friday through Tuesday rentals are scheduled for pick up anytime on Friday and returned on the following Tuesday. If you pick up on a Saturday, the rental rate published does not decrease.

  • A cleaning fee will apply if rental equipment is returned dirty. Customers are responsible for any loss or damage to rental equipment and also for personal injury.

  • You may rent the boat for less days and return it, but you would still pay the posted rate. The prices posted do not include GST.

  • Yes, Totem employees may assist in loading rental equipment, but are not responsible for any damage or injury that may occur during the process.

  • Optional spray skirts may be requested for certain kayaks. Dry bags, barrels and portage carts may also be rented for an additional fee.

  • Trailers are available ONLY with a minimum of a 4 vessel rental.

Rental Policy

All canoe, kayak, or SUP rentals come with PFD’s with whistle, paddles, bilge pump or bailing bucket and throw rope. Foam blocks, tie down straps and rope are also included to assist with transport.
